Within the framework of the GEF project "Facilitation of Transboundary Cooperation and Integrated Water Resources Management in the Dniester River Basin", a meeting of Moldovan and Ukrainian experts involved in the development of a transboundary diagnostic analysis (TDA) and elements of the overall river basin management plan (RBMP) of the Dniester River was held in Kiev on July 26, 2018.

The meeting discussed the structure of the TDA and the elements of the Dniester river basin, the analysis of the main anthropogenic loads and their impact, including pollution with plastic waste, the issue of the Nitrate Directive, the impact of the Dniester hydroelectric complex, the economic aspects of water use, etc.
Among the project issues, Ecoplatform specialists presented the inventory of the tailing dumps in Dniester river basin. Irina Nikolaeva in her report spoke about the fulfillment of the first stage of the task - a visit to 5 enterprises of Ivano-Frankivsk and Lviv regions. Based on the results of the visual inspection of enterprises, the main problems of operation of the nine tailings on the balance were expressed.
In addition, an informative and educational video report on the exploitation of tailing dumps in Ukraine is being prepared. Video materials contain the current state of the tailing dumps located in the Dniester Basin. Thematic interviews of representatives of enterprises, basin management of the Dniester River water resources, regional state administrations and the Ministry of Natural Resources of Ukraine were made.
Now the specialists of the project are working on the materials collected during visits to the enterprises with the purpose of studying the current state of the tailing management facilities. Based on the results of the inventory, short- and medium- and long-term measures will be provided for the safe and economically feasible operation of tailing dumps, which will be included in the management plan for Dniester river basin.
